Inspired by the traditions of Panama, “Echoes She Carries (2025)” is a tribute to ancestry, womanhood, and strength. The painting takes influence from the mola, a traditional textile art made by the Guna (Kuna) women of Panama. Molas are created by layering and cutting fabric by hand, revealing bright colors and patterns that tell stories about identity, nature, and spirit.
In this piece, those patterns are transformed into shapes and colors that feel alive — moving like memories passed down through generations. The woman at the center stands as a symbol of connection, with the echoes she carries being the voices of her ancestors within her. Through her, their strength and beauty continue to live.
This work celebrates the bond between past and present — a reminder that our roots are never lost, but carried within us wherever we go.
“ This artwork incorporates design elements inspired by the traditional Mola textiles of the Guna people of Panama. It is an original artistic interpretation and should not be considered an authentic Guna-made mola, but a personal artistic tribute to my heritage.”
